We are now running
two different tours year about – Highlands and Islands
in even years and our usual established Scotland/Ireland tour in odd ones.
Our itinerary for 2018
The 2018 Highlands
and Islands tour commences on the morning of Sunday June 17th at Edinburgh airport and
finishes back at the airport hotel on the evening of the 28th ready to depart
on the next morning. We will travel the first day to the South end of Loch
Lomond via the Falkirk Wheel and Doune
Castle. On Monday we go
via Glencoe to Uig in Skye. Tuesday will have us sailing to Lewis and Harris
and traveling via the Callanish Stones to our overnight stay in Stornoway.
We'll take the ferry to Ullapool on Wednesday staying there that night and then
driving the spectacular road round the North coast to Thurso on Thursday. On
Friday we take the ferry to Stromness in the Orkney
Islands where we'll spend three nights and explore the amazing
Viking and Neolithic sites, St. Magnus Cathedral and the local whisky
distillery. Monday night has us in Inverness and on Tuesday we'll travel
through Morayshire and Aberdeenshire to our hotel in the city of Aberdeen where we'll be
based for two nights. Our final day will be a drive down to Fife to visit the
fishing village of Anstruther and the historic town of St. Andrews
before finishing the day with a farmhouse meal with old friends and then to our
overnight hotel at the airport. As usual, Aberdonian singer and writer Colin
Stuart will be driving and co-guiding and there will be input along the way
from some of their musical friends.
And for 2017 -
The 2017 tour will
commence at Edinburgh
airport on the morning of Sunday June 18th and finish back at the airport on the
evening of Thursday 29th ready for departures next morning.
We will be visiting
Roslyn Chapel the first day before overnighting in Peebles. From there we will
go via Melrose
and Moffat to Stranraer. Next morning we take the ferry to Ireland and an overnight at the Storytelling Center
of Liz Weir after visiting the Giant's Causeway.
After a trip to the Ulster
Folk and Transport
Museum it's back to
Stranraer. From Stranraer we go via the Burns
Museum to Loch
Lomond. From there it's through Glencoe to Oban and a ferry to Mull. We take another ferry to Iona
and then back to Oban. We then have a few days based in Pitlochry in the
Perthshire Highlands before heading to Fife
for our last couple of days.
We’re sorry but having held the price for a couple of years
we are forced to make a small increase
The cost for 2017 is $3,500 – Please note that this does
NOT include airfare.
It’s in the nature of our
tours that the actual itinerary remains flexible up to and during our travels.
Please also note – the group size will be strictly limited to 10
maximum. The first 10 to firmly book and pay their deposit will be confirmed.
See a photo album of the
2008 trip –
Mary Mainous, who took the
pictures, enjoyed the 2008 tour so much she went back in 2009! Here is her 2009
and here’s more of the 2009 visit from Barbara and Jack McGeachy -
Mary came back yet again for the Highlands and Islands
tour of 2012 and posted more great pictures –
